Mirrors
three-channel video & spatial installation, PVC pipe structure and wide-angle lenses, 5 minutes, dimension variable
“Mirrors are filled with people. The invisible see us. The forgotten recall us. When we see ourselves, we see them. When we turn away, do they?” This is a quote from the book Mirrors: Stories of Almost Everyone by Eduardo Galeano, a Uruguayan writer that I admire. This work is the second project of the “Question Theater Project” after the first in Kyoto, Japan. Taking “theater” as a social practice and rehearsals conducted by ordinary people as the method, I integrate theater and reality and capture the problems and dilemmas of the city with the artistic sensibility of ordinary people. Based upon the collective anxiety that we are undergoing, Mirrors discusses how we deal with the society. These dream talks will make the viewers detach from the reality and gaze at others, entering a state of collective imagination.
