    Reinventing thefestival - Public Design

    Public participation/Social art

    2023

Thepublic was invited to redefine each day of the year as a unique festival onblank cards labeled with the dates of 2024. Participants ranged in age from 4 to 68. Once the cards were filled, the artist scanned and compiled them into an unique 2024 calendar.

The festivals createdby participants revealed their dreams and imaginations. For instance, children aged seven or eight dreamed up "No Homework Day," "Free Toy Festival," and "Family Safety Day." Teenagers proposed"Everyone Must Love Me Day," while young adults in their twenties envisioned "No Lies Day," "Effortless Rewards Day," and "Do Whatever You Want Day." Those in their thirties suggested playful ideas like "Talking Dogs Day" and "Crocs Day," and participants in their sixties contributed more reflective concepts, such as "Afterlife Day." These invented holidays encapsulate people’s deepest desires and reflect the emotions and aspirations of different age groups.

Through others' daily thinking, the audience can not only see their creativity, but also use this to reflect their own hearts, so as to imagine their own lives, and thus achieve the effect of artistic healing. This is a social art event about participation and interaction, where participants have the power to redefine "time", to redefine the power of the everyday.
